Day 9, Aegina to Syros
8:30am at Aegina port, listen to Menelaos announcing today's plan:
Pack what you need for the day, we are going to take public ferry to Syros.
Galileo will sail to Syros with just the 17 crew and our luggage, along with
a team member,
to catch up with us at Syros before dinner.
But before we do that, let's take a walk (to kill some time) before the
ferry arrives.
Aegina's harbor and church.
Aegina is only one-hour's ferry-ride away from Piraeus,
therefore many day-trippers visited from Athens.
A fishing boat
Aegina island is famous for its pistachio.
A fish market in Aegina
Horse carriage for hire.
Our ferry arrived, it was to take us from Aegina to Piraeus for the first
leg.
At Piraeus we changed to this larger and more luxurious ferry
for the second leg and longer ride from Piraeus to Syros.
On the large ferry to Syros. Looking out to the open Aegean sea,
we could not help wondering, "Is this sea too rough for Galileo?"
Disembarking at Syros' capital, Ermoupolis
A door way with view to the blue Aegean sea.
Syros' Church of Virgin of Psara.
We walked up a hill to see some of the Venetian mansions turned into
luxurious hotels.
This was a view from the hill.
Vincent could not help wanting to take a picture of this flamboyant
motorcycle.
