Golden throne and footrest

Peter The Great is featured in the painting behind the throne.

The golden two-headed eagle sculptured standing on top of the frame of the painting is the Romanov dynasty’s coat-of-arms.

You can also see the double-headed eagle on the red fabric of the throne.

There were several Rembrandt's paintings.

This is his biblical
"Decent From the Cross"
painted in 1634.

Bright light contrast on the main subject is Rembrandt's typical style.

Van Gogh's
"Spectators in the Arena at Arles"
painted in 1888.

We were in southern France in 2001, and spent time in Arles tracing Van Gogh's footsteps.

Hermitage Museum has a great collection of French impressionists', as well as Matisse and Picasso's.
