INVITATION TO TAC/EC '97
Dear TAC-EC Friends:
The 28th annual TAC-EC Conference will be held from July 3 to July 6, 1997, in a fresh new location at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. At this conference, the Taiwanese Americans on the East Coast will enjoy a happy gathering with ideas exchanging and friendship renewing.
It is a great pleasure for the Conference Planning Committee of Boston to invite you to attend this conference at this easily accessible and exceptionally scenic campus. This site has the charms of a small town and is conveniently situated on the east of Hartford, near Interstate I-84. The majority of the conference programs will be held at the Student Union, with the residence halls, cafeterias, concert hall, indoor swimming pool, gym and tennis courts all within a short walking distance.
The 21st Century Outlook is our 1997 TAC-EC Conference theme. This year's program is divided into four categories:
(1) Political,
Economic, and Cultural Outlook in Taiwan
(2) Trends of
the Modern Technology Development
(3) The Progress
of Women's Issues
(4) Life in This
Adapted Homeland.
A pool of established and famous speakers are currently being contacted by the Conference Planning Committee. The candidates from Taiwan include elected officials, political dissidents, academicians and social movements leaders. From the United States, the prospective speakers include professors, physicians, technology experts, entrepreneurs, artists and leaders of Taiwanese movements and other prominent members of Taiwanese communities.
The Society of Taiwanese Americans-New England (SOTA-NE) is in charge of the program for the second generation. Among the topics appealing to the young professionals and the college students are Taiwan History, the Application of Modern Technology, and Entrepreneurship. The Youth Program is being organized by a group of high school students, under active direction of Dr. Sidney Chang. The Program's focus is on Career Planning, Communication Skills, Etiquette on Friendship, and other exciting activities. The Children's Program will be led by very dedicated individuals whose program pleased so many parents and kids during the 1992 TAC-EC Conference at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Prof. H.K. Chen, an internationally known pianist, and Mr. Alex Fan, a young accomplished cellist, will be featured in the Concert, a very special treat for this year's conference participants. The most anticipated climax of the Conference, "Taiwan Night", will be full of superb performances. In addition, special programs, such as Ballroom Dancing, Fitness Dancing, This-Mile-is-for-You and Karaoke, suitable for the young and the old alike, will certainly provide us with much fun.
Please come and bring along your family, relatives, and friends to this wonderful and memorable event. Registration forms will be mailed to you shortly. Make sure you plan ahead and reserve time to take part in this 1997 TAC-EC Conference. Please visit 97 TAC-EC Web Site for more updates. http:// www.taiwanese.com/~tac_ec/
