Day 14, Porto

View of Porto from the south across the Douro river.
A tour member exclaimed that this view looked just like Prague.

A street near the City Hall (the tall building in the background.)

The Atlantic ocean, bordering the western edge of the city.

GCT's program director Eduardo, our driver Pedro, and our local guide in Porto.

A statue of Prince Henrique the Navigator, he was born in Porto.

Mei-Ching and Susan each purchased a Portuguese cook book in English.
We have fond memories of a "Portuguese Chicken" dish we used to have in Taipei.

The Maria Pia bridge, a railway bridge built in 1877 by Gustave Eiffel.

The cellar of Sandeman winery in Porto.

Sandeman winery's logo is a black Spanish hat and a black cape
often worn by Portuguese college students.

The sightseeing cruise boat we were on.

Dom Luís 1st Bridge, a bridge for trains on the top level and automobiles on the lower level.
This bridge was engineered by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel and completed in 1886.

The cruise company's tour map, showing the sightseeing routes the boats run.

We walked to downtown San Bento railroad station to see the azulejos tile panels depicting
landscapes and historical scenes. This station was converted from a former Benedictine monastery.

A very royally looking McDonald's in downtown Porto.

Inside this McDonald's, stained glass windows and chandeliers!

Porto's subway station.
