Day 11, Naxos and Ios

Galileo docked at Naxos shortly after breakfast.
This is Naxos' landmark, the Portara.  It is believed to be the remains of an
enormous 6-century B.C. Temple of Apollo that was never finished.

We were immediately taken by bus to see this Kouros, a huge ancient statue excavated
at a farmer's field by a German team. The significance of this Kouros was lost in many of us.

After Kouros, our bus dropped us off near the castle so that
Menelaos could take us on a walk through the castle.

Walking through the castle

From the castle we could see Galileo

Another view of Naxos' harbor.

We walked back to Galileo to gather everybody before going out to a home-hosted lunch.
We could see that Galileo's crew had already set up our dinner table.

A bus drove us through country side to get to our host's home.

Our lunch-host's beautiful home. Marble steps and marble floors.

Our hostess and her daughter. The hostess does not speak English, so her daughter interprets.

Table # 1. Set up in their dining room.

Table #2

All the vegetables and fruits were from the host family's garden.
(Boiled potato, boiled zucchini, grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, Greek salad, stewed pork,...)

When we got back to the ship, we saw that Galileo's sails were up.

Menelaos gathered our team at the upper deck for a briefing of next day's schedule at Santorini.

In the late afternoon we sailed for Ios and docked at Ios over night.

We walked around the small Ios harbor. We saw a ferry arrived, out pouring many
backpackers, and saw many locals hawking their rooms to the backpackers.
