Tokyo (9/22 ~ 9/23/2025)

The day before, at Detroit Airport waiting for our connecting Delta flight to Haneda.

The Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyobashi Premier building.
A 7-11 is on the ground floor, a coffee shop on the 2nd, and the hotel's lobby on the 3rd.

Across the street from our hotel is this Meidi-Ya, 明治屋.
Established in 1885, it is a high-end Japanese grocery store.
It is also a major wholesale distributor.
This Kyobashi location is the Medi-Ya chain's flagship store.
Why is the store's name not pronounced as "Meiji-ya"? For an explanation, see its Wikipedia page.

The familiar "Tokyo Metro Ginza Line" is our transportation mode for getting to places.
Kyobashi is just one stop north of Ginza.
Our exit/entrance to the Ginza Line is right by the Meidi-Ya building.

To Ikebukuro (at the 11 o'clock position), we relied on connecting to the looping green Yamanote Line.
We used taxis to fill in transportation gaps as needed.

Attended a 東京大衆歌謡楽団 concert at the Asakusa Shrine.
(There is a lottery system for early arrivals to draw a low number to get a seat.)

A lot more people were standing in the back.
Since this was a holiday, many people were making pilgrimage to the Sensoji temple and the Asakusa Shrine.

Sensoji (浅草寺) temple's kaminarimon gate is like a magnet, attracting tourists from far and near.

At the Ryogoku Kokugikan, where a sumo tournament was taking place.
Ryogoku Kokugikan is located on the east bank of the Sumida River across from Asakusa.
Therefore, our taxi ride from Asakusa to here was short.

Waiting near the entrance gate, hoping to get a glimpse of a star wrestler coming or going.

With a wrestler who was leaving the tournament.

At Ikebukuro, in front of O-ji-san's former noodle restaurant.
Its 4th floor 史明紀念館 can only be visited on the last Saturday of each month, from x PM to y PM,
and by making an appointment on its Facebook page.
One may google "東京新珍味 史明紀念館" to find more info.

On the 2nd floor of the restaurant.

Menu.

One 大滷麵 soup noodle and one stir-fried vegetable.
The stir-fried vegetable was sizzling hot and delicious, while the soup noodle was too spicy.
There were two varieties of 大滷麵 on the menu. Since we didn’t attempt to interpret
the Japanese characters, it’s possible that we accidentally ordered the spicy option.

And a pan-fried dumpling, 北京餃子.
