Day6, off to Paris (7/1/2025)
The Eurostar waiting hall at London St. Pancras station was crowded.
Eurostar train's departure board.
Watch for the board to announce your train's platform, and then
up to 900
passengers would head to that platform immediately.
The Eurostar train between London and Paris is either 16 or 18 cars long and
typically has two locomotives: one at the front and one at the rear of the train.
The van-taxi which took us from Paris Gare du Nord to our hotel in St. Germain.
The building in the center of the photo is our hotel, the Citadines Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
It faces the River Seine and has an inner courtyard garden in the back.
The hotel's layout is U-shaped, with a hallway turning left and then left again, offering rooms on both sides.
This means the property is much larger than its street frontage suggests.
Austin's family-room had large picture windows in both the bedroom and living room,
which overlooked the beautiful courtyard garden.
A few days before our stay, the hotel emailed me asking for my room preference (high or low floor).
I replied, Not too high to stay in the former attic, and not too low to hear street noise.
As a result, both of our rooms were assigned on floor 1 (which is America's 2nd floor)
and were located in the back, overlooking the inner courtyard garden.
A snippet of the Google Maps. The red circle is our hotel.
The brown circle is the Saint Michel Metro and RER station.
The 3 red arrows are (from left to right) the Museum d'Orsey, the Louvre Museum, and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
They are all within walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel's self-service Laundromat has 3 washers and 3 dryers.
Detergent was automatically added during the washing cycle.
The downloaded WeWash app, which tells you how many machines are available,
and let you touch the Wash or Dry button to reserve a machine for use within 10 minutes.
