10/17/2024, CruiseDay 5, Hakodate

A snippet of Hakodate on Google Maps.
1. is the Morning Market and cruise terminal near by.
2. is the Kanemori (金森) Red Brick Warehouses
3. is the Fort Goryokaku (五稜郭).

We did not take many photos of the Morning Market this time.
This is a photo from 2018 to show what the Morning Market looked like in general.

A photo of the 駅二市場 (Ekini Market), which is a building in the Morning Market.
The 朝市食堂二番館 (Asaichi Shokudo Nibankan) restaurant is located upstairs.

Shops on the ground floor of the 駅二市場 (Ekini Market).

朝市食堂二番館 (Asaichi Shokudo Nibankan) in a 2018 photo,
but we did not dine here in 2024, because they no longer cook and serve king crabs for customers.

The shopkeeper held our crab for a photo op.
The king crab weighed 2.8 kilos and cost 40,000 JPY grilled and served on the premises.
At 1 USD = 150JPY, 40,000 JPY was about USD$ 270.

The 8 of us filled the shop's 1st-floor seating space.
There were a few more tables on the 2nd floor.

Two ladies in the kitchen cleaned and grilled the king crab and served it on two plates.
Each of us was given a long pointed metal tool to scrape meat off the king crab legs.
No, the meat did not slide off easily like Alaskan king crab legs seen on YouTube videos.

We also ordered grilled scallops and grilled oysters at 800 JPY per piece,
as well as a few seafood donburi.

... and abalone sashimi.

In the Goryokaku park. The trees had not turned color yet.
