10/16/2024, CruiseDay 4, Otaru
A snippet of Otaru on Google Maps.
1. is the cruise terminal, near the Otaru Canal
2. is the Old Aoyama Villa (旧青山別邸), also called
the Otaru Kihinkan (小樽貴賓館)
3. is the Otaru Music Box Museum Main Shop (小樽音樂盒堂本館)
in downtown
At the entrance to the villa.
Path to the houses.
The villa compound.
Taking photos of the inside of the villa was prohibited.
So while touring the beautiful villa from room to room, we could only point our camera
toward this rock garden outside.
Rock garden viewed from the villa's second floor.
Lunch at the villa's restaurant.
The restaurant was spacious with beautiful views of the garden, and it served herring!
So we decided to have lunch there. (The 8 of us were seated at two tables.)
Stanley ordered a set meal with herring.
The other 3 were not adventurous enough to order an unfamiliar fish for a
meal, so we ordered
ramen.
Stanley gave each of us a small piece of herring to taste.
The herring was heavily marinated in a dark sweet sauce, so it did not taste
fishy at all.
The garden and stone lantern outside the restaurant's window.
A picture of the villa in a different season when flowers were blooming.
LeTAO cafe
We shared 3 plates of cakes like these.
Every morsel was very smooth, just melted in your mouth.
