This was 7:25 am.
The upper part of Mt. Fuji was covered by clouds.

At 8:27am, the clouds moved a bit to reveal the top.

At 9 am we were able to see Mt. Fuji,
no white cone though during summer months.

This probably was the best view we had on that day.

Shimizu port area.
Shopping malls, food court, restaurants, and ferries wheel.

Meggy and I went to a mall that was all restaurants, food court and food stores.

We saw a vendor selling oden, a Shimizu specialty.
Oden is fish cake made with various ingredients.

We bought both the one on the left, seafood kakiage tempura (海鮮炸天婦羅), and
the one on the right, oden made of squid.
The left one tasted very good because it was made with several kinds of seafood and vegetables.
While the squid was just squid, it was not as flavorful as the mixed seafood one.

It had shrimp and crab meat in it too, just bursting with happy flavors in every bite.

Shimizu Jirochō's sailors inn rebuilt at this new location.
The original one was close to the port but is gone by the new development in the port area.
Since our ship came visiting, several local citizens, young and old, who spoke English were on site to answer questions.

Now we walked further away from the port to find Jirocho's birth house.
The street that his birth house is on is named after him, Jirocho-dori (次郎長通り).

It is now a shop selling souvenirs.
Two English-speaking mature ladies were on site to help visitors.
They asked us what brought us to this house.
Mei-Ching answered, "Because of the song 'Tabi sugata san'nin otoko' (旅姿三人男). "
They said, "Oh, the old movie."
Mei-Ching said, "No, not the movie, but the song sung by Tōkyō Taishū Kayō Gakudan (東京大衆歌謠樂團.)"
They said that they had never heard of such a band, so Mei-Ching showed them the band's YouTube channel on her iPhone.
One of the ladies wrote down the name. I hope she is enjoying listening to the band on YouTube now.
