10/18/22, Day 8, Belvedere and Haydnhaus
The Belvedere Palace complex consisted of two main palaces.
This is the Upper Belvedere, because its location is higher on a slope.
Upper Belvedere is now an art museum including several
Gustav
Klimt's paintings.
From the Upper Belvedere looking toward the Lower Belvedere and beyond that,
the city.
The steeple of St. Stephen's Cathedral was visible from here.
There were several fountains in the palace grounds.
From the fountains, looking back to the Upper Belvedere.
After exiting the Lower Belvedere, we looked for street signs across the
road.
Mahler's former apartment building is on the right hand side, just after the church.
Mahler's former apartment was in this building.
He lived on the top floor, and his apartment faced a street named Strohgasse on the far right (not pictured.)
Fountains by a war monument.
We liked this Nordsee Restaurant on Kärntner Straße.
Fast service, pleasant spaces, and you point to what looks good to you. No surprises.
VT had fried fish with rice.
MC had paella with grilled shrimp and a mixed seafood appetizer.
Haydnhaus Museum,
the house where Haydn lived for the last 12 years of his life.
The address of the house is Haydngasse 19.
The city named this street after its most famous resident.
A very tranquil courtyard with old trees and an old well.
