10/17/22, Day 7, Theater an der Wien and Strauss Concert

Breakfast was served in the hotel's lounge/bar area.
Juice, tea, and hot water were all on the right hand side of the partition.

Hot food, cold cut, salad, cheese, bread, jam, fruits, cereal, yogurt,
muffin, cake, coffee, and a touch-less pancake machine etc..

Beacon may be changed to some other meat item on different days.
The other 3 hot items (scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and stewed vegetables) were constant.

The golden statue of Johann Strauss Jr. in Stadtpark.

The park also has a statue of Franz Schubert.

This is the back side of the Kursalon concert hall.
Its main entrance is on the opposite side, facing a city street.

From the Stadtpark, we took Tram#2 to Oper/Karlsplatz, then walked to Naschmarkt.
(This overhead shot of the market is taken from the internet.)

On approaching the market, we could see a building on the right hand side with a maroon-colored sign
proclaiming, "Theater an der Wien" (indicated by the red-arrow in the photo.)
Theater an der Wien has changed hands several times and has been expanded/redesigned several times
that only a part of the original building is preserved.

We walked along a side street to see the rest of the theater.
The is Papagenotor (Papageno Gate), a side entrance to the original theater.
This is a memorial to Schikaneder, who is depicted playing the role of Papageno in The Magic Flute,
a role he wrote for himself to perform.

Papageno is accompanied by the Three Boys, characters in The Magic Flute opera.

This was what the back side of the theater looked like.
We did not take this photo ourselves, because there was construction work
going on, and the sight was a bit chaotic that VT did not want to take a photo of.

An old photo of the theater found on the internet.
This must be what the theater looked like in 1801,
and Beethoven had an apartment here from 1803 to 1804.

Naschmarkt with many restaurants ...

... and vendor stalls.

We went to a Pan-Asian restaurant for lunch.
MC's Mango salad with duck meat was very good.

VT ordered a bento box of fried rice and chicken.

The restaurant was spacious considering it was in a crowded market place.

Our ticket to the Kursalon for a Strauss concert in the evening.

We were seated in row 3.
There were several tour groups attending the concert as well.
(This photo was taken 20 minutes before curtain time. Some of the tour groups had not arrived yet.)

No photo during the concert, so this photo is from the internet.

Strauss' golden statue in the park was lit at night.

While waiting for Tram#D at the Oper/Karlsplatz stop to go back to our hotel,
this was our view of the State Opera in the night.
