10/5/2019, Transfer to Padova via Verona

River Adige flows through the city of Verona.
Yes, it is the same river Adige we first heard about in Bolzano.

Map of the Adige River from Google.
The river starts in the Alps in South Tyrol and flows through North-East Italy to the Adriatic Sea.

Don't remember what the spiky metal cover was for, but this is the only photo
we have of our excellent local guide, Christina.

An old surviving Roman gate.

A typical narrow street.

Verona Arena, built in the 1st century AD.
The small portion of the walls where four arches remaining is what survive of the 3rd tier of walls.
The arena is still being used for annual summer performance of opera Aida and other musical events.
Christina told us the best seats in the arena are where the four remaining arches are.

Looking at the arena toward the east direction.

Looking at the picture posters in front of the Arena, now it is obvious why
Christina said the best seats are where the four remaining arches are.

On the way to Piazza Erbe,
with Verona's bell tower in sight.

Piazza Erbe (Herbs market).

In Verona's Piazza dei Signori (Square of the Lords),
with a statue of Dante in the center.
Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) was a writer, poet, and politician born in Florence.

Palazzo della Ragione, which was once Verona's city hall
and also housed the offices of the Magistrate's Court.

Palazzo Domus Nova,
office of the chief magistrate of Verona.

An equestrian statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807 – 1882),
an Italian general who contributed to the Italian unification and the creation of the Kingdom of Italy.

On the narrow way to see Juilet's house.

Juilet's balcony, and a statue of Juliet at the end of the courtyard.
It was a mob scene, half of the people wanted to go in and half wanted to get out.

Our lunch in Verona, each person got his/her own pizza.
This was MC's pizza with Buffalo mozzarella.

And this was VT's Margherita pizza.
Both were good, with tasty tomato sauce and soft center.
